1.Huaxin B83 Max airport ice cream vending machine in a departure gate waiting area

Self-Service Soft Serve Where Travelers Wait

An airport ice cream vending machine lets passengers buy freshly made soft serve during the time they already spend waiting: at the gate, in the arrivals hall or on a station concourse. Huaxin’s B84, B85 and B83 Max are floor-standing, fully automatic machines. Passengers order on a 32-inch touchscreen, pay through the configured cashless system, watch the cup being prepared through a viewing window and collect it from the pickup opening, with no staffed counter involved.

This page is written for airport commercial operators, station retail managers, transit service providers and distributors. It covers the two questions a transport venue asks before approving a machine: which positions justify the space, and what the project needs in space, power, access, safety and servicing.

Where It Works in Airports and Stations

An airport ice cream vending machine needs passengers who have a few minutes to spare and room to stop. Security queues, boarding lines and corridors that people hurry through are weak positions even when passenger counts are high. The same logic applies to a train station ice cream vending machine: look for places where people wait, not where they rush.

Position

Why passengers buy here

Check before approval

Airside gate areas and departure lounges

Passengers have cleared security and wait with time to spare before boarding

Airside passes for service staff, supply screening, permitted service hours, a power point near the position

Landside arrivals halls

People meeting arriving flights wait without a fixed end time

Keep exits, meeting points and information desks clear; make the menu visible from the waiting area

Rail station concourses and waiting halls

Passengers wait for their platform to be announced

Keep departure boards, ticket machines and accessible routes unobstructed; check station opening hours

Metro station halls and transfer passages

Steady passing traffic, with short pauses between lines

Use wall space outside the main flow; test the mobile signal underground; plan around overnight closure

Transport hub retail and food court areas

Travelers and local shoppers pass the same position

Lease or concession terms, nearby dessert outlets, waste bins and seating

In a metro station in Changchun, China, a Huaxin machine stands against the wall of a line-transfer passage, between advertising panels. The walking route stays clear, and passengers can step aside to buy.

Wherever the machine goes, it and its customer area must stay clear of evacuation routes, fire equipment, wayfinding signs and accessible routes. Ask the venue to approve a layout drawing that shows the machine, the customer standing area and the service clearance before you sign a concession or location agreement. If your hub includes a retail mall, our shopping mall ice cream vending machine page covers positions inside the mall itself.

Fast Purchase for Passengers on a Schedule

A passenger with a boarding time buys only if the process is clear from a few meters away. On the B84, B85 and B83 Max, a purchase takes four steps:

1. Choose the dessert and any configured sauce or topping on the 32-inch touchscreen.

2. Pay with the configured payment method.

3. Watch the cup being prepared through the production viewing window.

4. Collect the cup from the pickup opening.

Preparation takes about 15–20 seconds per serving under standard operating conditions; recipe, serving size and ambient temperature affect the time. The full purchase also includes choosing on the screen and payment authorization, so keep the menu short and show prices clearly to people approaching the machine. The interface language can be adapted to the target market, which helps international passengers order without asking anyone for help.

Cashless Payment for International Passengers

In an airport or a major station, many customers carry cards and phones issued in other countries, so payment is usually the first technical question. Card, contactless and QR or mobile payment can be integrated, but what works depends on the country, the payment service provider (PSP), the terminal model and its interface with the machine. MDB-compatible payment integration is available. Before ordering, confirm with your provider:

• which card schemes and mobile wallets the terminal accepts, including cards issued abroad

• the settlement currency and how prices are shown to passengers

• how a payment is refunded if a purchase cannot be completed

• what network connection the terminal itself needs

Cash and coin modules can be configured for a specific currency if the venue wants them. Where the concession is based on revenue share, selected Master OS software configurations can support revenue-sharing functions, subject to project and payment system compatibility.

What Airports and Stations Require Before Installation

Transport operators usually review equipment through their commercial, facilities and safety teams. Prepare these points before you submit a proposal.

Space and Delivery Route

Each model is a single floor-standing cabinet, so there is no counter or preparation area to build. Plan for the cabinet, the customer standing area in front of it, and clearance for opening the front door, refilling and ventilation. Request the current installation drawing for the selected model and attach it to the layout you submit.

The cabinet weighs several hundred kilograms. Check floor loading, lift capacity, door widths and the route from the loading dock to the position, and agree a delivery time with the venue. Airside deliveries may also need security screening and an escort.

Power and Network

The standard B Series electrical specification is 220 V, 50 Hz, with a rated power of 1,800 W. 110 V and 60 Hz configurations are optional and must be confirmed before ordering. Ask the venue’s facilities team for a grounded outlet or circuit close to the position, so no cable crosses a walkway. Rated power is not a measure of daily energy consumption.

Remote monitoring and most cashless terminals need a stable data connection. The machine supports cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity, depending on configuration. Mobile signal can be weak in underground stations, and airport networks often require IT approval, so test the connection at the exact position before installation.

Access, Approvals and Hygiene

Staff who service an airside machine typically need an airport ID pass or an escort, and mix, cups and toppings pass through the airport’s supply screening. Exterior graphics and screen content may need approval under the terminal’s design guidelines; the exterior wrap and logo can be customized to meet them. Ask your Huaxin sales manager for the certification documents that apply to your model, configuration and market before you submit the proposal.

Follow local food-safety rules for storing and handling mix. The B Series runs a one-touch cleaning program, and routine manual cleaning and inspections are still required. Pasteurization is optional on compatible configurations.

Selling Around the Clock, Planned Around Service

Because no one has to serve each order, the machine can keep selling when staffed food outlets are closed, for example during early departures, late arrivals and delays. Whether that becomes true 24/7 operation depends on three things:

• Venue hours. Many rail and metro stations close overnight, and some terminal areas close at night.

• Supplies. The B84, B85 and B83 Max hold approximately 20 L of mix and approximately 160 cups, subject to cup specification. How long that lasts depends on actual sales and portion size, so set refill visits from real consumption data.

• Service response. Schedule cleaning and refills in low-traffic hours, and assign someone to respond when an alert comes in or a purchase cannot be completed.

The machine removes the need for staff to serve each order. It does not remove the need for refills, cleaning and inspections.

Remote Monitoring Across Terminals and Stations

Network-enabled B Series machines report operating status, status and fault alerts, and sales data through the Master OS management system. Selected settings and basic operations can be managed remotely, subject to connectivity and account permissions. For an operator with machines in several terminals or along a rail line, this shows which machine needs a visit next and helps plan service routes around access windows. Refilling, cleaning and physical service still require someone on site.

Choose the B84, B85 or B83 Max

All three models share the B Series commercial platform. They differ in front-door structure and exterior design, not in production capacity, so choose by the presentation the terminal or station needs rather than by expected sales.

• B84: a clean commercial exterior for terminals and stations with strict design guidelines, where the machine should match the surrounding retail finish.

• B85: a brand-forward exterior for dessert concepts in airport retail zones or station shopping areas, where presentation to passing passengers matters.

• B83 Max: a flagship presentation for professional operators and large hub projects that need a complete, highly visible self-service point.

Shared Configuration

• 32-inch touchscreen for ordering and configured branded content

• Approximately 20 L mix capacity and storage for approximately 160 cups, subject to cup specification

• One base mix at a time, with menu variety from compatible sauces and toppings; frozen yogurt and sorbet with compatible recipes

• 220 V / 50 Hz standard, 1,800 W rated power; 110 V / 60 Hz optional

• One-touch cleaning program; pasteurization optional on compatible configurations

• Exterior wrap, logo and interface language customization; payment and software functions evaluated per project

• Installation dimensions: confirm with the selected model’s current installation drawing

Machines are built to order. Production takes about 30 days after order confirmation, confirmed in your quotation. When you plan a launch date, add shipping time and the venue’s approval process. To compare these models with the rest of the range, see all Huaxin ice cream vending machines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should an airport ice cream vending machine be placed?

Choose positions where passengers wait: airside gate areas, departure lounges, landside arrivals halls and the edges of food courts. Avoid security queues, boarding lines and fast-moving corridors. The position needs room for a customer to stop, a power supply nearby and service access that fits the airport’s airside or landside rules.

Is the purchase quick enough for passengers with a flight or train to catch?

Preparation takes about 15–20 seconds per serving under standard operating conditions. Choosing on the touchscreen and payment authorization add to that, so a short menu, visible prices and a quick contactless terminal keep the purchase brief. No one has to wait for staff to serve them.

Which payment methods can travelers use?

Card, contactless and QR or mobile payments can be integrated through a compatible terminal and a local payment provider, and cash and coin modules are available for compatible currency configurations. Accepted cards, wallets and currencies depend on the country, provider and terminal, so confirm with your provider that cards issued abroad are accepted before ordering.

What are the power and space requirements?

The standard specification is 220 V, 50 Hz with 1,800 W rated power; 110 V and 60 Hz are optional and must be confirmed before ordering. The venue’s facilities team should approve a grounded outlet or circuit near the position. For space, plan the cabinet, the customer standing area and clearance for door opening, refilling and ventilation, and request the selected model’s installation drawing for the venue’s review.

How are refilling and maintenance handled?

An operator refills mix and matching cups and runs the one-touch cleaning program, plus routine manual cleaning and inspections. Each machine holds approximately 20 L of mix and approximately 160 cups, subject to cup specification, so refill frequency depends on actual sales and portion size. Airside visits have to fit staff passes, supply screening and the airport’s service windows, and status alerts on networked machines help you time them.

Can the machine operate 24/7?

It is designed for unattended self-service, so it can keep selling outside staffed hours wherever the venue is open and the machine is powered and connected. Round-the-clock operation then depends on opening hours, refill frequency, cleaning time and how quickly someone responds to an alert. Stations that close overnight give you a natural service window.

Can it be installed on an open-air platform?

Indoor positions are recommended. Outdoor or semi-outdoor placement, such as an open platform, is only possible with shelter and after the site has been assessed for temperature, rain, direct sun, dust and the electrical connection.
